Policy Work
I actively engage with policy-makers and to inform the policy-making process. I mainly accomplished this through: writing and editing policy reports; presenting to science, environmental, and sustainable seafood organizations; participating in meetings and workshops as an invited expert, and participating in policy meetings. In recent years, I participated in the Antarctica and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020: The Monaco Assessment (2015), the Ross Sea region MPA Research and Monitoring Plan Workshop (2017), the Expert Workshop on Pelagic Spatial Planning for the eastern subantarctic region (Domains 4, 5 and 6) (2019), and the 1st Southern Ocean Regional Workshop for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2020). In 2021, I co-convened an expert workshop on United States research and monitoring in support of the Ross Sea region Marine Protected Area. Since 2012, I have participated in meetings of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). I have attended with the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and most recently with the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) delegation as the Deputy Chief Officer of the Standing Committee on the Antarctic Treaty System.
